Our Non-Negotiables

Civility and seriousness of purpose are the focus at NEW ERA. As classical and jazz music play between each class period, scholars are reminded that this is a place where everyone believes in them - every single day.

NEW ERA is a place of learning where the distractions of a neighborhood are left behind; where all scholars are respected and must respect others.

In addition to our scholars, parents or guardians are expected to be involved in their child's education and sign agreements to abide by the rules.

Preface

Do only those things that will help you to achieve a successful and healthful future.

Treat your associates with courtesy, justice and truthfulness.

Take care of your things and take care of the things we share.

2

Attend school daily and come on time.

3

Leave all outer clothing and book bags in your locker.

4

Move quickly from class to class.  Enter the room quietly, take your seat, and begin work immediately.

Be prepared to work every day.  Bring a large loose leaf notebook, assignment notebook, pens, pencils and whatever equipment is required for learning.

6

Do homework nightly.

7

Eat only in the cafeteria.

8

Cards, radios, walkmen, games, beepers, cellular telephones, laser pens and/or any other items not related to academic instruction should not be seen, or heard.  They will be confiscated the first time and given back to the scholar.  The second time it will be confiscated and a parent will have to come and get it from the school. If they must be brought to school, they should be concealed until the item is placed in your locker, turned into the main office, or given to a teacher.

9

Do not engage in physical or verbal violence.  Learn to disagree without being disagreeable.  Do not fight.

10

Respect the building.  Do not graffiti or deface any part of the building.

11

Show respect to any visitor or adult in the building.

12

Wear the uniform daily, at all times, while in the building. Headwear should be removed upon entering the main door; it should be capped when leaving the main school door. Never wear a hat in the building.
